SLIPKNOT Hiring A Young Drummer Was "Dumbest Thing We've Ever Done," Jokes Corey Taylor While Interviewing METALLICA

I'm sure Jay Weinberg was grinning ear to ear to know that a band like Metallica was joking about his talent and ability.

I'm sure Jay Weinberg was grinning ear to ear to know that a band like Metallica was joking about his talent and ability.

As if Metallica-mania isn't crazy enough, the band arranged to be interviewed by Slipknot's Corey Taylor, in what ended up being a really fun meeting of the minds. If anybody can grasp the level Metallica performs on, it has to be the singer of Slipknot, who you could argue is the next generation of metal fans' Metallica, carrying the torch and bringing bands with 'em for the ride.

Here's the full interview:

During the twenty minute chat, Metallica's longevity was discussed. Taylor asked how the band kept going while they were older.

James Hetfield says “I don’t like being 90%. I’d rather be 110% less often, and that’s what we’re doing" while guitarist Kirk Hammett adds: “For me it seems like all my moving parts are breaking down – my knees, my wrists, my elbows, my shoulders, my brain… Moving forward you have to do the maintenance, with a good feeling that you can pull it off.”

Drummer Lars Ulrich interjects saying “It’s not fair – I just realised. You have a 25-year-old drummer. It’s not fair!”

Taylor replies: “Trust me. I’ve got to keep up with him. It sucks, man! At first I was like, ‘This is awesome!’ But by the end of the tour it was like, ‘Goddam it – this is the dumbest thing we’ve ever done.’ Just kidding, Jay…”

Slipknot of course famously hired Jay Weinberg to be their drummer in 2014, who I'm sure was grinning ear to ear to know that a band like Metallica was joking about his talent and ability.
