What's up with bands getting new drummers and then keeping it a secret? During the last months of 2014, Megadeth lost drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broaderick. Shortly after that, frontman Dave Mustaine posted a mysterious video of a new drummer practicing with bassist Dave Ellefson, but with the drummer's face cropped out. While most of us are still scratching our heads as to who it could be, former Megadeth guitarist Glen Drover seems to think it's Megadeth's most famous ex-drummer Nick Menza!
"Yeah. I don't know what they're gonna do. I would imagine, by the little video that they [posted on the Internet of Mustaine and Megadeth bassist David Ellefson rehearsing with a drummer], I would bet money I don't have [that] it's [going to be] Nick Menza on drums. And whoever the guitar player is, we'll find out. But, you know, a lot of people, a lot of the fans want that, and that's great. I can understand, from the fan point of view, where you grew up with a certain band and you favor a certain lineup and you want that lineup to get back together. Like Black Sabbath, or whatever it is… So I get that."
A lot of fans do want that! Menza drummed for the legendary thrash collective from 1989 to 1998 and did a brief stint with the group again in 2004. Now all we need is guitarist Marty Friedman back and it's time for some classic Megadeth once more.
Obviously this is pure speculation on Drover's part, but it's still exciting!
