MAX CAVALERA Wants To Get SOULFLY's Original Lineup Together For An Anniversary Tour In 2023

Plus maybe more Killer Be Killed?

Soulfly's 1998 debut album Soulfly I turns 25 years old in 2023, and Max Cavalera wants to celebrate. In an interview with Metal Injection, Cavalera said he'd love to get the band's original lineup back together and do a tour focused on Soulfly I. The original Soulfly lineup lasted between 1997 and 1998 until guitarist Lúcio Oliviera left the band.

"I know next year is 25 years of Soulfly I. Hopefully we do something [to] celebrate that as well. I would like to even maybe play the whole record. It would be great. Maybe even get the original guys to do it – get [drummer Roy Mayorga, bassist Marcelo Dias, and guitarist Lúcio Oliviera], bring [Lúcio] out of Brazil to do this. It would be amazing."

Cavalera also briefly touched on all his other projects, hinting that there could be a third record from Killer Be Killed (his project with Mastodon, Converge, and former The Dillinger Escape Plan members) and a sophomore record from Go Ahead And Die (his project with his son Igor Amadeus Cavalera and Khemmis drummer Zach Coleman) at some point in the future. And we really hope there are, because both those projects rule.

"I'm a blessed musician. I have one foot in the past where I get to touch all the Sepultura classics, and I have one foot in the future doing new Soulfly, new Killer Be Killed, [and] Go Ahead And Die. It's the best of both worlds if you ask me, and on top of that I jam with my family."

Soulfly's new album Totem is out now and you can check out our review of it here.
