If you've ever pondered how unique Alice In Chains was, just have a listen to this version of Rick Astley's pop hit, "Never Gonna Give You Up" done in the style of Alice In Chains. Uploaded to YouTube by Moonic Productions, the mashup deceptively feels like an actual AIC track until you pay attention to the lyrics. You can check it out above.
As for the actual Alice In Chains, they recently teamed up with Funko for an upcoming release for the toy conglomerate's Pop! Albums series. In the past, Funko has made figurines in the likeness of Linkin Park, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and many more. This new AIC release will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the grunge legend's seminal LP, Dirt. A post to Funko's Instagram page includes a photo of the set, which can be pre-ordered here.Â
The band expects to start working on a new album sometime this year and are eyeing a 2023 release. The last Alice In Chains album was the most-excellent Ranier Fog in 2018. This past April, vocalist William Duvall told Overdrive , "Right now we're just coming out of the lockdowns, and we've all been busy doing our own thing," DuVall said. "Jerry is out on tour at the moment for his solo album, and I'm doing my thing. We have plans for some live shows in September/October, and I'm sure that will blow off the cobwebs and we'll start looking at some new ideas for the next Alice In Chains album.
"We had a lot of time imposed on us and I think we're going through this period of catching up on things that we had planned for 2020 [and] 2021, and we're all finally getting to do that now. So, it's kind of like a stopgap and we're just dealing with all of these stockpiled projects that we had planned a few years back. So once we get back up to speed with things and we get these dates underway in late summer, I'm sure it will spark a whole bunch of ideas for the next Alice In Chains studio album."
Alice in Chains will kick-off a massive summer tour in August with Breaking Benjamin and Bush, with additional support from The L.I.F.E. Project, Thunderpussy and Plush. You can catch all confirmed dates below.
