DEFTONES Drops Heavy New Song "Genesis"

It rules, in case you didn't guess that.

Hey, remember when DJ C-Minus warned us the next Deftones single "Genesis" would be heavy? Well he was right, and you can stream the song now in all its hazy, crushing glory above. You're especially going to dig this one if you're a fan of the band's early 2010s output.

The song comes alongside a music video directed by Sebastian Kökow and Clemente Ruiz. The song is off the band's new album Ohms, which is out September 25. Ohms was produced by Terry Date (Pantera, Soundgarden) and is available for pre-order here.

Recently, frontman Chino Moreno reviewed every album in Deftones' discography, and for the new album, Ohms, Chino said "“Heavy” is kind of subjective, you know? The last thing I ever want to do is be quoted saying, “This is our heaviest record!” The first thing that’s going to happen is some dude’s going to be like, “No way dude! This is …” You know what I mean? It’s kind of subjective. But I do feel like it’s got a little more energy. I think that is attributed to everybody being engaged completely. Everybody firing on all cylinders. There’s not one of us individually that was sort of sitting back just going along. Everybody was very present physically and emotionally, ready to work and to put the work in."

Drummer Abe Cunningham also recently spoke about what song is his favorite off the new record: “I like it all obviously because it’s new and we haven’t played it 17 million times, all these songs, it’s always nice to have new stuff. But there’s a song called “Radiant City” which is kind of cool. It starts out with just Sergio on bass, just [mimics bass notes] it’s just got this really nice kind of driving [rhythm], you know what I mean? And that’s my one right now, it changes every few days, but I’ve had time to live with the record too…"
