Today All Them Witches released the new track, "Slow City," along with an accompanying video. It's the fourth track from a series of releases the Nashville, Tennessee band has dubbed The Baker's Dozen project—where All Them Witches will release a total of 13 tracks, one each month in 2022, plus one additional song. The band will also be heading out on tour starting next month, and will wrap a spring run of shows with a spot at Bonnarroo on June 19.
"Slow City"—a cover song by the Finnish "psychedelic-electronic-krautrock" band Pharaoh Overlord—is a droning mix of southern gothic guitar tones and menacing, imposing rhythms, drenched in John Bonham-echo. And the video is nothing short of a cosmic freak-out. Coming in at nearly 13-minutes, the instrumental song is perhaps the most bong-worthy track in the entire All Them Witches canon, and there's certainly a lot of legitimate candidates for that honor.
Hypnotic splashes of color fade-in and out slowly but with a material sense of stroke-inducing possibility. Look closely and you may find prehistoric alien godheads, looming but obscured by clouds, along with what look like mythical rasta-shamans that shift and change face. In other words, prepare to get weird!
All The Witches's most recent full-album release was 2020's Nothing as the Ideal, released through New West Records. This year, New West also put out the stellar live collection, Live on the Internet. Last month, Metal Injection premiered the video release from that set: a blistering version of "Enemy of My Enemy."
