In 1996, Zakk Wylde released his Book of Shadows record. It was a pretty mellow affair that was pretty damn good overall and afterward we never got a solo Wylde record again. I mean, I guess most of Black Label Society's material can be considered a Zakk Wylde project, but Book of Shadows was all Wylde.
Which is why it's exciting that we'll finally be getting a second Book of Shadows in 2016! Here's what Wylde had to say in an interview with Louder Noise.
"Obviously, the 'Book Of Shadows' thing is more of an acoustic thing and more mellow — the mellow stuff as opposed to the heavy stuff. But yeah, that's what we're working on right now. I can't believe the album is twenty years old. But we're always writing mellow stuff. I mean, once I get done doing the heavy thing for a while and writing riffs, once you get worn out on that, I'll just either pick up… sit behind a piano or pick up an acoustic [guitar], and then it just puts you in a different state of mind when you're writing. So that's all it is to me."
It'll be interesting to see where Wylde's head is at twenty years apart from Book of Shadows, as far as writing that type of music goes.
