Are you ready for far more kawaii metal in the States? Because it's coming. Babymetal just announced they've signed a US deal with RAL/Sony and will be re-releasing their debut album in the States with two new tracks.
The official press release has the details:
BABYMETAL–the Japan-based all-girl-fronted “Kawaii Metal” (mix of J-Pop Idol and Heavy Metal) group–has signed with RAL/Sony Music Entertainment for the U.S. release of their 2014 critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. The album’s re-release will feature two bonus tracks (cover art and tracklisting below) and be available digitally on Tuesday, May 12 and physically on Tuesday, June 16.
Says Bill Richards, VP of Marketing at RAL/Sony Music Entertainment: “After witnessing the band’s sold-out New York show, we knew we wanted to be involved. The core metal fans and metal press seem to get BABYMETAL, which shows how the language of music transcends boundaries. They hit all the entertainment buttons and are really fun to watch.”
It's interesting to note that they signed a deal with Sony. Sony is the same label that signed another tween act, Unlocking the Truth and that didn't work out too well for them, as they are trying to get out of it before even releasing any new music. I have a feeling though that Babymetal's handlers know how to negotiate a contract and they probably got a much better deal.
It will be interesting to see how the band is marketed by their US label. So far, their marketing has been mostly word of mouth and press, such as ours, fawning over the band. If you missed it last year, here's our adorable interview with the three ladies…
