Trivium aren't the type of band to scream from the rooftops when they're in the studio. They typically keep quiet until they are close to done with new music and then begin teasing the possibility of new music. It seems we might be on the cusp of a new Trivium album cycle, seeing as their last three albums were released within two years of each other. Their last release, Silence in the Snow came out in October of 2015, so we're right around the time of the cycle when the promotion begins.
Trivium began the teases by changing all their social media profiles to have a non-descript maroon photo:

Their website features a simple sign-up form and this teaser:

The caption for the teaser on Facebook reads:
Beware those that speak in tongues,
For they may call your name.
VIII.I
This would be Trivium's eighth studio album. It's interesting that they are writing it as 8.1.
Trivium will kick off a run of European dates next week, so we might not have to wait long to hear new music. I have to assume they will release a single before their live gigs, and then play said new song at the live gigs. That's just speculation.
All will be answered in due time.
