SUMAC Finishes Recording Song For New 7"

It's 18 minutes long and they gotta edit it down.

SUMAC

Sumac was in the studio recording (presumably) a new album in 2019, and now they're back doing a new song for the Sub Pop Singles Club. Sumac recorded an 18-minute long song at The Unknown that they're going to somehow edit down to fit on a 7" for the club.

We just wrapped up another round of tracking at The Unknown in Anacortes. This studio is a truly special place where we've made our favorite recordings as a band – the place, the owner Nich, the town, the atmosphere – everything about it is conducive to a great experience, and deeply satisfying results. Looking forward to sharing the results of this particular work later in this year.

The session was a quick one day blast through of a new 18 minute piece we've somehow gotta trim down to fit on a 7" for the Sub Pop Records singles series. All the material feels crucial, but the format demands brevity – something we apparently have a hard time with. Anyway, thank you Nich, The Unknown, Luuk, Nick, Evie and Anacortes – see you again soon we hope. Group shot by F. Coloccia.

Sumac is vocalist and guitarist Aaron Turner (ex-Isis, Old Man Gloom), drummer Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists), and bassist Brian Cook (Russian Circles).
