Slipknot promised new music soon, and that time is just about here! Slipknot has announced a new single produced by Joe Barresi (Pallbearer, Tool, The Bronx, etc.) titled "Chapeltown Rag" for November 5. The song was inspired by vocalist Corey Taylor watching a documentary on murderer Peter Sutcliff, and how he kept being recommended violent films and documentaries. Update: Listen to the song here.

"At that moment, everything was just kind of steering towards violence, or a history of violence," said Taylor in a piece by Knotfest. "And it was just such a weird echo of social media. And the fact that social media tries to steer you towards violence or steer you towards the most toxic thing – the most toxic moment. So I looked at it from that standpoint."

Taylor said the lyrics also deal with lead detective in the Yorkshire Ripper investigation, George Oldfield, and his mistaken view that Sutcliff was only murdering prostitutes. This of course led to the investigation being centered around the "moral behavior and lives of the victims, rather than the criminality of the murderer."

"They wasted all this time," said Taylor. "All this money, all these resources – all because they refused to be wrong. Now what does that sound like in this day and age?"

Taylor finally states the single deals with distortions of mass media and echo chambers of social media. So yeah, new Slipknot is coming.
