Four years after its self-titled album, Satyricon is returning to the scene with Deep Calleth Upon Deep. The album will be out September 22 via Napalm Records, and uses a rather creepy drawing from 1898 done by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch as the cover.
The album was recorded in both Oslo, Norway and Vancouver, Canada, and was mixed by Mike Fraser, who worked with the band on 2006's Now, Diabolical. The press release says the album is "a wholesale reinvention and a brand new era in Satyricon history," which should be cool if it turns out to be actually that.
Here's what frontman Satyr had to say about the album.
"Approaching this release, what I always kept in mind is that either this is the beginning of something new or it's gonna be my last record. If this is going to be the last, then it needs to be something special. If there are more records, then I'd better make sure that this is so different from the last one that it feels like a new beginning. I think it's really, really dark, very spiritual and filled with confidence and energy."
