Periphery are hunkering down and making a new record.

Periphery have been keeping busy in 2014. The band kicked off the year with the release of Clear, their experimental jam and some world touring to wrap up their Periphery II touring cycle. Now, the time for touring is over and the time for writing and recording has begun.

Guitarist Misha Mansoor recently posted on Facebook:

Yesterday we played the last show we will play until our next album is recorded. Very excited to get to work on this next one!

I went in the comments and asked Misha who would be producing the album, and he responded saying the band will self-produce. So it looks like the band will be spending the better part of the spring recording their new album, which I am dubbing Periphery III: Return of the Djentdi.

Update: Mansoor has since elaborated a bit more on what to expect:

“We are going to do this next album ourselves. We have a really specific vision of what we are after, and we think this would be the best approach. I will be working with all of the guys on the pre-pro and instrumental production, Spencer will handle vocal production and Nolly will of course be in charge of engineering and mixing.

We are definitely going to be doing live drums again, we haven’t exactly figured out where just yet, but we might even try to use different drum rooms/studios for different songs for some variety. All in all, it’s an ambitious project and every member has their work cut out for them, but we are all very excited!”
