MAX CAVALERA Compares New SOULFLY To Old ENTOMBED & NAPALM DEATH

Soulfly

Max Cavalera has revealed to Sappenin' Podcast With Sean Smith that he's working on a new Soulfly album, and that it's bringing back some old memories for him. Cavalera said the new record is reminiscent of old Entombed and Napalm Death, especially the drumming from his son Zyon Cavalera.

"Right now, [we're] in the early stages of writing," he said. "It's just riffs — we're just doing riffs. And the cool thing about Zyon, the way he plays drums, is he's a bit like a wild animal — he has no restraint, man, and he just unleashes on the drum kit. Pure, pure brutality power drumming, and I love that. So that takes me back to a lot of the early records that I like — a lot of the old Entombed stuff and Carcass and Napalm Death; out-of-control shit. So I think we have that kind of spirit going on on a lot of the new tracks."

The new Soulfly album will be the band's first since their 2018 album Ritual, though they did recently drop a surprise live album. Cavalera and Killer Be Killed also just recently their first new album in six years (which we love).
