Mastodon are not slouching in 2014. They've been in the studio since November and have finally come out of the recording cocoon, and have made themselves very available in interviews.
Drummer Brann Dailor recently spoke to SPIN and revealed that the band have a multitude of new material, so much that they are considering splitting it into two releases:
”It’s gonna be a summer release, so I feel like it needs to be amped,. I don’t feel like it needs to be slow, and doom and gloom. That’s a winter album. We were actually talking about that earlier, like, ‘Why don’t we take some of the stuff that’s really moody and slow and do, like, a winter EP?’”
No word on if that will happen yet, but how great would that be? The album is currently being mixed and mastered, so I'm sure once they decide on the flow of the record, they'll see if they can swing it. I'm sure their label is all for it.
Before their new album is released, Mastodon will be hitting the road this spring with Gojira and Kvelertak, one of the must-see tours of the season! Get dates here.
