Weekly Injection

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From LAMB OF GOD, SYMPHONY X, and More Out Today – 7/24

This week is stacked. New releases from legends, future legends, weird shit, and more! To the metals…

Agusa – Agusa 2814xgGbDj6L._SL1500_

Genre: Psychedelic progressive
Origin: Sweden
Label: Laser's Edge

Going to start us off with something different. This isn't quite metal, but it's really fucking cool. Prog nerds should be up on Agusa if they aren't yet for their lengthy psych instrumental madness. This release is just two tracks, but it's two long-ass, groovy, weird tracks.

Lamb Of God – VII: Sturm und Drang 91E27wHrMtL._SL1500_

Genre: Groove metal
Origin: Richmond, Virginia
Label: Epic

I feel like this record will wind up being another divisive Lamb of God release. Not since Sacrament has the band tried so many atypical (for them anyway) musical choices. This one features clean vocals by Randy, guest vocals from Chino of Deftones, and then other bits here and there and seem like conscious decisions to shake stuff up. Overall a solid record. Your thoughts?

Locrian – Infinite Dissolution 91e4e5AK1qL._SL1500_

Genre: Drone/ Avant black metal
Origin: Chicago, Illinois
Label: Relapse

Buy now on Amazon.com

Wasn't familiar with this band before this album. This is some weird, dark, ominous, noisy stuff that borders on straight up feedback. Each song usually ends really, really cool, but it feels like an eternity to get to the cool bits.

Joe Satriani – Shockwave Supernova 810gxN9I50L._SL1500_

Genre: Instrumental
Origin: Westbury, New York
Label: Sony

Buy now on Amazon.com

Back to make you feel like shit at guitar once again. The man still manages to create entrancing instrumental music that isn't purely guitar wank-based. Is there still wank? Abso-fucking-lutely there's wankery. Wouldn't be Satch without it.

Sons Of Huns – While Sleeping Stay Awake 51m4xgM0U1L

Genre: Stoner
Origin: Portland, Oregon
Label: Riding Easy

Buy now on Amazon.com

This band just oozes modern stoner rock. They look the part in vests and leather, they riff the fuck out of the riffs, and they are even from the belly of the fuzzy beast (Portland). Cool guest on this one if you're into the scene.

Symphony X – Underworld 81AdD4GO-YL._SL1500_

One of the greats are progging all over your face once again! Soaring…everything, really. Complex…also everything. Pretty much everything you'd expect and/or want from Symphony X.
