Last week was the first of the new release date here stateside, and all stops were pulled! This week is pretty light in comparison. Very light, really. Some cool stuff though. Lots of fuzz, some rad death metal-ish stuff, a band that proves that whole "like father like son" adage, and more! To the metals…

When I found out that Rae Amitay (ex-Mares of Thrace, ex-Woods of Ypres, drum goddess) was in a new project, I was stoked. The band is Immortal Bird and it is awesome death metal with elements of black metal, sludge, and some experimental bits. I really dig it and clocking in at 31-minutes, it certainly leaves me wanting more.
Next To None – A Light In The Dark

Origin: LeHigh Valley, Pennsylvania

I was a little skeptical of a prog band made of a bunch of kids, but these kids are legit. There are some silly gang vocals that seem out of place, however they have chops overall. There is a glaring old-Dream Theater influence, but the drummer is Mike Portnoy's kid sooooooooooooo….

Orchid – Sign Of The Witch EP
Genre: Stoner/heavy metal
Origin: San Francisco, California
Label: Nuclear Blast

Ghost and Graveyard had so many people stoked on a new era of the stoner sounds of the 70's coming straight outta Sweden. However, the entire time we had Orchid doing the same from out of the bay. These slightly more local boys are a band that is comprised of equal parts fuzz pedals, mustaches, and smoke. Like Immortal Bird earlier, I'd like more please.

Not going to pretend like I'd heard of this band before this post, but I'm glad I know them now. They're a fuzzy band with a bit of post-hardcore in there, but not that Warped Tour post-hardcore that your mind probably goes to. Like, something punkier, and grungier, and actually good. Awesome video below too!
