Cynic broke up in 1994 after the released of their iconic progressive metal masterpiece Focus the year prior. The band reformed in 2006 and released a very-much-loved new album Traced In Air in 2008. Traced In Air featured guitarist and vocalist Paul Masvidal, guitarist and harsh vocalist Tymon Kruidenier, bassist Sean Malone, and drummer Sean Reinert.
Now in 2019, Cynic is re-releasing Traced In Air with new bass tracks by Malone, a new mix by Adam "Nolly" Getgood (Devin Townsend, Periphery), and new mastering done by Ermin Hamidovic. Weirdly, Traced In Air Remixed seems to either completely omit or mix way down all of Kruidenier's harsh vocals. You can hear a few examples of that below.
Here's what Masvidal had to say about the record.
“Traced In Air has been brought up to date for 2019 – a remix where something less means a little more. Cynic has always been about forging paths rather than building walls.”
