CARCASS Producer, Colin Richardson Quits Mixing The Album

I'm not sure if this is a good thing, or a bad thing, or just…a thing.

Carcass are working on their first new material in sixteen years. The band has been working with Colin Richardson, who is a longtime collaborator.

The band was finished recording new material and were two weeks into mixing when Richardson decided, "oh hey, I'm over it" and quit the project. Guitarist Bill Steer revealed the news in a recent interview:

“He quit yesterday. He was two weeks into mixing the album and he decided that he didn’t want to continue. So Andy Sneap is taking over. [Richardson] produced the album. It’s just that he’s hit a brick wall with the mix and doesn’t want to continue. So we’re bringing in Andy Sneap to do the mix now. It’s a shame, but we finished recording the album three months ago. There are a lot of reasons for it, but the main reason is that he says he is burnt out. I guess it will be a positive thing to bring in some fresh ears.”

Andy Seap knows his way around a mixing board so I am not at all worried that the album won't pack a crunch, but this makes me a bit skeptical as to why Richardson had to quit.

Either way, I greatly look forward to hearing Surgical Steel this summer.
