Avenged Sevenfold is one of those bands that I genuinely hope go back to their roots. Everything from 2001's Sounding The Seventh Trumpet to 2005's City Of Evil was great, and even the self-titled in 2007 wasn't bad. Then came both 2010 and 2013, and I just wasn't into the band's output that much. Especially the latter, considering Metallica/The Black Album already exists.
Then April Fool's Day 2016 rolled around, and the band revealed "new material," followed by actual new material that showcased a clip that sounds like a shreddier version of City Of Evil. All that being said, it doesn't sound like we'll get to hear any new music, good or bad in 2016, according to frontman M. Shadows in an interview with 97.9 GRD.
"Yeah, we're very wishy-washy. We're writing, we've been throwing stuff around. You know, we've been working, and that's all I can really say about it. I think there's a lot of speculation online, and we're just kind of leaving it that way. But when there's something to be heard, we'll let the world know. But right now, we're just still working on stuff."
As much as that does suck, it's better for Avenged Sevenfold to tack on a fourth year to that wait, rather than rush new music and have it be not so great… again.
We just posted photos of Avenged Sevenfold's gig this past weekend opening for Metallica at US Bank Stadium. View the photos here.
