Earlier this month, Anthrax's Charlie Benante sold the drum heads he used to track several cover songs, including Black Sabbath's "Neon Knights" which ended up on a Ronnie James Dio tribute album. Turs out the band also covers of songs from Rush, Journey, AC/DC, and Boston for a special EP of cover songs that will be released in September.
Charlie Benante was interviewed by Loudwire yesterday, where finally squashed all the rumors:
To commemorate the first year of ‘Worship Music’ being out, we’re putting together a little companion EP with some fun shit on it,” says Benante. “It started out as what I call ‘The ’70s EP.’ It’s made up of some cover songs from our favorite bands — consisting of Rush, Thin Lizzy, Boston, Journey … We’re still working on it now, but I think it’s gonna be really cool.
September 13 is the one year anniversary of Worship Music's release, so look for the EP to be released around then. Songs already confirmed to be on the release are:
AC/DC – "T.N.T."
Boston – "Smokin’"
Journey – "Keep On Runnin'"
Rush – "Anthem"
I wonder what other songs will be on the EP? There are so many good Thin Lizzy songs that Anthrax could do. Will they play these songs live?
