Amon Amarth updated all their social media yesterday with a new logo and the hashtag #TGHA. Fans began speculating what the acronym stood for, with most guessing album titles along the lines of The Gods Have Arrived, The Great Hall Awaits, The Great Heathen Army, and more. Which is a logical conclusion to come to given Amon Amarth released a new single called "Put Your Back Into The Oar" earlier this year and mentioned that fans should "enjoy the song and video while we continue to work on a new album."
Then came another interesting post today that added a twist to things. Amon Amarth has posted a map of what appears to be York in North Yorkshire, England (zoom in and you'll see Paragon Street). A quick search of York brings up that the city was captured by a Viking army, led by Ivar the Boneless and Halfdan, in the year 866. The city was renamed JórvÃk and was the capital of Viking territory in Britain until the year 954, when it was recaptured by King Eadred. It's also worth noting that the final Viking ruler of JórvÃk was named Eric Bloodaxe (maybe referenced below with the red axe), which is insanely metal.
Anyway, new Amon Amarth might be coming and you should get stoked.
