What an eventful week for Slipknot and their maggot fans. First, Joey Jordison gave an interview where he said the band has begun work on new material and should be playing shows soon, not a day later and Corey Taylor denied Jordison's claims of new material, saying he hasn't worked on any and has no plans to, but would be open to playing shows.
Add more fuel to the fire, the official website of the Sonisphere UK festival has confirmed that Slipknot will be the headlining act of the fest which runs three days from July 8-10, 2011. If Jordison's comments are to be believed, the band will be playing as an octet, with a session bass player playing behind the stage next to Jordison.
Corey Taylor also checked in to Twitter with a few tweets confirming the reports that the band is playing Sonisphere:
Yes- we are playing Sonisphere UK. And a few others to be announced. Like I said, shows? Yes. Album? No. Baby steps, people. For the fans.
Honestly, I don't know how to feel about the tour. But it's for the fans, and for the family. We'll see.
I don't know WHEN I'll be ready to make an album. Might not be for years. But we will definitely play shows. We'll see what happens.
I love that we now live in such a fast paced information age, that there is very little time to wonder "Hey, what does Corey Taylor have to say about all this." Instead, he'll just come right out and say it because I'm sure fans are badgering him on Twitter about it. Well, this is nothing but good news for Slipknot maggots. The band will finally be in the same room again, feeling each other out, seeing what the vibe is and then maybe, if all goes well, they will all agree on recording new music, or at the very least, what they will be saying to the press.
We will continue to stay with this story as it develops. But for now, all hope is not gone! (See what I did there?) In related news, we have just posted the new video for Corey Taylor's holiday single "X-Mas", so check that out.
