New Zealand is averaging about three COVID-19 cases per day because Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her government shut down early and took the virus seriously from the get go. Now New Zealand gets to have a festival with over 100,000 attendees because they weren't big dummies about safety.
That's right – New Zealand will be hosting their CubaDupa festival throughout the Cuba Precinct in Wellington the weekend of March 27 without any masks or social distancing required.
"After a tough year, Cuba Dupa 2021 will be just the tonic we all need," said Festival Director Gerry Paul.
"The streets will be alive with surprises around every corner and our most ambitious, most creative and most diverse program ever. We will be there celebrating our community, our artists and the businesses that give Cuba Street and Wellington its unique character." More info on CubaDupa is available here.
There will even be metal bands. MetalSucks reports that the club Valhalla will be hosting the following acts:
Battle For Endor
This Silent Divide
Marrowspawn
Voodoo Bloo
Sheeps
Into Orbit
Planet Hunter
Spook the Horses
Dimestore Skanks
MeatPlanet Of The Dead
Jörmungandr
Fall of Man
Radar Angel
Bzzrkr
Mammuthus
Severed Beliefs
Coerced
Altar of Achlys
Slave Cadavar
Gugonix
Meanwhile in America, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci assumes shows will resume sometime this fall.
"If everything goes right, this is will occur some time in the fall of 2021," Fauci said, "so that by the time we get to the early to mid-fall, you can have people feeling safe performing onstage as well as people in the audience."
It also looks like vaccines may be coming to a pharmacy near you, so here's hoping! Though for now, the United States is around 26.4 million COVID-19 cases and nearly 450,000 deaths.
