One of the many things I love about Metallica is they are always keeping the memory of their late bassist, Cliff Burton alive. They still keep in contact with Burton's family, Cliff's dad is in constant contact with the band, and in general they recognize Cliff's immense contributions to the band's legacy.
So it's no surprise that on their new album, Hardwired… To Self Destruct, current bassist Robert Trujillo paid tribute to Cliff, specifically in the track "ManUNkind" and it's intro. Trujillo told Exclaim!:
“When I had written that, I was definitely thinking about Cliff. In a way, that to me is a tip of the hat to Cliff Burton and the spirit of Cliff. If you hear that little thing before ‘ManUNkind,’ for me personally, that was with Cliff in mind.”
You can listen to the track below. Can you hear the tribute?
