Sad news to report from down under, Peter Hobbs died this morning. Hobbs made his mark in the Australian metal community with the band Tyrus before moving on to Angel of Death.

While the music is very clearly thrash metal, Hobbs himself would describe it as "virgin metal," because he considered it to be the purest form of heavy metal, according to Metal Archives.

"In loving memory of Peter Hobbs," Angel of Death shared online earlier today. "See you in hell brother. RESPECT!" Hobbs last posted on the page that the band was working on new material last month.

Angel of Death were considered icons in Australia for being one of the first acts to break through out of the country and into the metal consciousness. The band's last album, Heaven Bled came out in 2016. They were best known for their 1988 self-titled debut.
