Wolfgang Van Halen has been publicly coping with the understandably difficult burden of losing his father, guitar legend Eddie Van Halen. Wolfgang revealed getting some very kind, helpful words from a surprising source – Robin Williams' daughter, Zelda.
Zelda, another child of a very famous personality, had to deal with her father's death via suicide very publicly, and Wolfgang revealed she reached out with words of advice.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said "Somebody who I really hold in high regard is Zelda Williams, Robin Williams’ daughter. We talked. She reached out to me."
He added "She was wonderful, because we are unfortunately part of a very exclusive club now. But she put her thoughts into words that were really helpful on the anniversary of Robin’s death. She was like, while the love and support is wonderful, you begin to feel sort of like a roadside memorial. Sure, flowers are nice, but a ton of flowers still weigh a ton. It’s a lot to carry. So while it’s wonderful, it’s difficult."
It's a very unique, and honest perspective, that sometimes people don't take into consideration when seeing others grieving.
Wolfgang has been working on moving his life forward, releasing a solo single, "Distance," as a tribute to his late father. All proceeds from the track will go to benefit the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, which aims to keep music education alive. Wolfgang's full solo record is scheduled for release in 2021 via Explorer1 Music Group/EX1 Records.
