The Pantera celebration shows kicked off this December with the lineup of vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown alongside Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde. Though according to Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti, Wylde wasn't the only guitarist Pantera was considering.

In an interview with Overdrive, Tremonti said Brown approached him a few years ago at the Download festival and asked him to consider trying out for Pantera. Tremonti wasn't interested in the position, saying you'd have to be a "a certain type of personality to take on that role."

"A number of years ago, I was talking with Rex at the Download festival, and he was talking about a possible Pantera reunion," said Tremonti. "He looked at me and said, 'You should put your name in the hat' and I was like, 'No way, man.' You have to be a certain type of personality to take on that role.

"It's not just about the playing, it's very much the personality, and Dime had a huge presence. Put it this way, nobody's gonna flip off Zakk Wylde onstage. They very well might do that to me, but there's just no way I would put myself in that situation."

It'd be interesting to know who Pantera was considering for the reunion, as it always seemed like Wylde was a shoe-in to be their "new" guitarist.
