Shocking Revelations

Did GUNS N' ROSES “Sweet Child O’ Mine” Rip Off An Australian Rock Song?

The songs sound very similar.

The songs sound very similar.

This is curious… an Australian blog, MAX TV, recently noted that Guns N Roses' smash hit,  “Sweet Child O’ Mine” sounds a whole hell of a lot like a song from a band named Australian Crawl called “Unpublished Critics.” The thing is, the Australian Crawl song came out six years before the GNR version.

Here are the two songs for reference:

The vocal progression and melody certainly sound similar enough that I wanted to gauge your opinion on the matter. What do you think? Could it just be a simple coincidence that two sets of musicians on different sides of the  world came up with the same song or is this a direct copy cat?

Axl shouldn't worry though, the band isn't thinking of suing. The Daily Mail got in touch with Australian Crawl vocalist James Reyne, who said that he's not about to take on the GNR attorney monolith:

‘I’m not about to take on the might of the Guns N’ Roses lawyers,’ he added.

Probably a wise choice!
