I have long contended that Dave Grohl is the coolest motherfucker in rock. He will top you off at this show, break his leg at a show and keep going, and he'll write to your local town council if they're trying to get your metal band to stop making so much noise.
That's seriously what happened when members of the young metal band Black Leaves of Envy, featuring members ranging in age from 15 to 17, reached out to Grohl for some assistance. The band have been shut down from practicing in their garage for noise issues, and hoped that if Grohl wrote a letter to their local council, it would help them change their minds. The band were told to keep the noise below 40 decibels, which Grohl relates to “approximately the level of a dishwasher at 15 meters distance.”
Grohl's note also states that “For musicians that lack the resources to rehearse in professional facilities, a garage or basement is the only place they have to develop their talent and passion. I believe that it is crucial that children have a place to explore their creativity and establish a sense of self through song. The preservation of such is paramount to the future of art and music.”

To make matters better, Grohl published a second letter directed to the young band, with advice on how to soundproof their garage. The advice makes a whole lotta sense and other bands can benefit from it. Read it here.
Of course, you're wondering… is the band's music any good? We'll let you decide…
