Late last weekend, Voivod bassist Jean-Yves Thériault, a.k.a. “Blacky,” quit the band for a second time, the first time in 1991. He rejoined in 2008 and I guess he's over it again. On Friday the band posted:
“It saddens us to announce that Voivod will no longer be performing live with Blacky. Jean-Yves has decided to leave the band for his own personal reasons. We wish him all the best.
Voivod will carry on.”
The band had a gig the following day, at Festival Jonquiere En Musique in Quebec, and found a new guy just in time. His name is Dominic Laroche, and they're calling him "Rocky." You can see him above, second from the right in a new photo the band posted (via Annie Lev).
Rocky has no prior metal credits in his back catalog, but it seems like he'll fit in just fine. Here is some video from the festival:
