The New MORBID ANGEL Album Is Definitely Death Metal, Says Steve Tucker

"I've said it before — I'm a death metal guy, so, for me, it's gonna be a death metal album; if I'm on it, it's death metal."

"I've said it before — I'm a death metal guy, so, for me, it's gonna be a death metal album; if I'm on it, it's death metal."

Morbid Angel has previously confirmed that it'll be releasing a new album this year, leaving fans hoping that it'll be better than 2011's Illud Divinum Insanus trainwreck. The new lineup bodes well for the material, featuring Steve Tucker on bass and vocals for the first time since 2003's Heretic, drummer Scott Fuller (Annihilated, ex-Abysmal Dawn), and guitarist Dan Vadim Von.

In an interview with The Metal Magdalene With Jet, Tucker confirmed what everyone wanted to hear – Morbid Angel will go back to being death metal in 2017. Tucker also compares the writing process to the Gateways To Annihilation album, which definitely adds to that excitement!

"I've said it before — I'm a death metal guy, so, for me, it's gonna be a death metal album; if I'm on it, it's death metal. So it was just about making a Morbid Angel album. It was really about coming in with something new, something fresh, but yet it still beingMorbid Angel. Really, honestly, we didn't approach this any differently than any of the other albums I was involved in except for maybe Formulas Fatal To The Flesh, which Trey wrote all the music, all the lyrics and things like that. But this was done more similar to maybe Gateways To Annihilation, where everybody had their contribution. Trey wrote a bunch of songs, I wrote songs, Scotty contributed some ideas. There was a lot of back-and-forth. In the end, it has to become a Morbid Angel song. And at this point, I feel that it's very much a Morbid Angel album."

Don't forget to catch Morbid Angel on tour with Suffocation, Revocation, and Withered this May!
