Spotify Buys Music-Based Wordle Spinoff, Heardle

Available to some users across the world now.

Heardle

The word-guessing game Wordle got so popular earlier this year that it got bought by the New York Times. The game also inspired a handful of spinoff games, such as Heardle (and a metal version of Heardle) – the game where you have to guess the song based on a small snippet. And much like Wordle, Heardle has been acquired as well.

Spotify has just announced their acquisition of Heardle, which they're approaching as a music discovery tool. Spotify promises the functionality of the game will stay the same, and effective today, players can listen to the full song on Spotify at the end of the game.

"We are always looking for innovative and playful ways to enhance music discovery and help artists reach new fans," commented Jeremy Erlich, Global Head of Music, Spotify. "Heardle has proven to be a really fun way to connect millions of fans with songs they know and love and with new songs… and a way to compete with their friends as to who has the best musical knowledge. Since its debut, the game has quickly built a loyal following, and it aligns with our plans to deepen interactivity across the Spotify ecosystem."

Spotify's Heardle is available to select users in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
