June 11th marks the release date of Manifest Decimation – the debut Southern Lord LP from Texas crossover thrashers Power Trip. To wet the appetites of fans and the uninitiated alike, the band has premiered the title track from the album on Pitchfork.com.
Like their throwback contemporaries, Power Trip stick to the standard thrash template musically, but they differentiate themselves from the pack by opting for a murkier, more sinister sounding production style. The opening seconds of "Manifest Decimation" sound like the soundtrack to an Italian zombie movie from the 80's, but that's quickly swept aside as the band bursts forth with some seriously evil sounding old school thrash. If Venom were a straight up thrash band, this is what they would have sounded like.
Power Trip just embarked on a tour to promote the album that runs through early June. If you live in any of the cities the band is playing, prepare to have your jugular ripped out soon; Power Trip's live show is serious business.
