Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo recently said in an interview that he thinks a Pantera reunion is a good idea as long as everyone else in the band is on board with it (drummer Vinnie Paul is not).
Now in an interview with Metal Wani, Anselmo says a potential reunion would be a massive emotional deal, and "not seeing my brother Dimebag across from me on that stage, it would be absolutely… it seems invalid to me right now. I'm not seeing it. I'll admit it — I'm straight-up torn; I'm confused on the topic."
Perhaps more interestingly though is Anselmo's feelings on a Dio-like hologram filling in for Dimebag live. Anselmo says "it would have to be right," and that everyone else in the band would have to be on board with it.
"You know, it would have to be right. I think everybody's heart would have to be in the right place, and I'm talking about the guys in the band. And it would have to be done right. There's no way we could skimp on something like that. I mean, if we were gonna do a hologram of Dimebag, it would have to be flawless and it would have to be perfect, just like he was every fucking night, man. No matter how piss-ass drunk he would be, once that guitar was in his hand, he was a machine, man. So it would have to be perfect."
While Vinnie isn't into it, bassist Rex Brown wasn't about it as recently as late 2017, so who knows what'll actually happen.
Personally, I'd rather see Zakk Wylde up there with the band than a Dimebag hologram. It would just be too weird to see three-fourths of Pantera rocking out on stage with a movie of Dimebag playing.
