The Body's erm… body of work is becoming a storied collection of terrifying collaborations, splits and full-length LPs lately. The Portland duo of Chip King and Lee Buford had a busy 2015 completing collaborative efforts with Neil Jameson of Krieg as well as sludge group, Thou. The noise/sludge metal pair are looking to round out their year with the announcement of what will be "the grossest pop album of all time".
The album's called No One Deserves Happiness, and it will be released March 18, 2016 through Thrill Jockey. To accompany the announcement of the album, King and Buford released the song "Shelter Is Illusory". On initial listen, you will find that it has a little higher tempo and not quite as dark as some of the prior works (see the collaboration with The Haxan Cloak called I Shall Die Here). It also juxtaposes King's high-pitched shrills against the brooding tone of Maralie Armstrong (Humanbeast). I'm a huge fan of the boundaries that The Body is pushing with their music, "Shelter Is Illusory" is a great example of how they are able to do it.
Check out the track below, and check out some of The Body's previous efforts on their Bandcamp page. Interesting to note, the duo mentions on their page that they are in works with The Bug, a dancehall/dubstep musician, as well as grindcore group Full of Hell, further examples of the limits to which they stretch their music.
