The NFL has a nasty habit of not choosing rock and metal bands to headline the Super Bowl halftime show every single year. Nevada governor Joe Lombardo would like to see that change when the event is held on February 11, 2024 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, NV.
When asked in interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal who he'd like to see play the Super Bowl, Lombardo answered "AC/DC! I was going to yell it out… But yeah, I'm serious. Bring 'em back." Obviously AC/DC isn't exactly the answer that Metallica fans have been hoping for, but it's progress into the rock and metal world, right?
To be fair, the Super Bowl has peaked its head into the rock world from time to time in the past. Like in 1997 where the halftime show featured ZZ Top, or in 2001 where every mom's favorite band Aerosmith got to play, or even in 2010 with whoever the hell is playing in The Who these days. Or perhaps most notably in 2014 with the horniness that is the Red Hot Chili Peppers, plus some other shows featuring U2, Bruce Springsteen, etc. sprinkled in throughout the years.
AC/DC is set to play their first U.S. show since 2016 this October at the Power Trip festival. So who knows – maybe the Super Bowl isn't that far out of the question?
