It seems like only yesterday did Dream Theater and Mike Portnoy split, but yesterday was actually eight years ago, 2009. Since then, Portnoy has put out quite a few albums with quite a few different "supergroups." He's got The Winery Dogs, which consists of legendary bassist Billy Sheehan and jazz fusion guitarist Ritchie Kotzen, he's in The Neal Morse Band, Transatlantic (ex-Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings, Marillion), Flying Colors (ex-Spock's Beard, Deep Purple, Planet X), and Metal Allegiance with David Ellefson from Megadeth and Alex Skolnick from Testament, among the countless guests in the studio.
Why stop there? Why not add yet another group to that roster? According to Portnoy, he's doing exactly that, though we're not sure who's participating just yet. Portnoy has a pretty wide array of connections in the rock and metal world, so it's almost impossible to guess who this might be a new group with… I guess we'll find out soon.
