It'd be a lot easier to list the projects that legendary vocalist Mike Patton hasn't been in over the years. In an interview with Andrew Parks of Bandcamp about his extensive discography, Patton touched on some advice for vocalists while discussing the upcoming Dead Cross record II. Patton addresses the usual vocalist ego and basically says that sometimes you need to shut up and listen to what your bandmates ar doing musically.
"I still see it as, 'I am here to help. I am a component," he said. "I think that's important, but let's be honest: Singers are fucking idiots. They think they own the fucking show, but they don't, okay? That's one thing I've learned over the years: All you've gotta do is sit back and be a part of the fucking band. That's what I've tried to do with these guys."
"I'm not pushing ideas on them, because guess what? They've got great ideas, and I don't want to fuck it up. I'm involved in another project now where it's kind of the same thing—it's like, 'You don't need me. You need my voice. That's it.'"
Dead Cross will release II on October 28, and you can grab that here. Patton will also his the stage for the first time since canceling a handful of Faith No More dates with Mr. Bungle this December in South America. Get those dates below.
