Mikael Akerfeldt & Steven Wilson Project Is Completed

Last year we told you about a project that would see a collaboration between Opeth frontman Mikael Akerfeldt and Porcupine Tree frontman Steve Wilson. A new post on Opeth's official site suggest the project is finally being completed. Here is the message in full:

The long awaited collaboration between Mikael Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) is finally being completed. The project goes under the name of 'Storm Corrosion' and will have a self-titled record out in April 2012 through a yet unnamed label. This album could be seen as the final part in the odd trilogy of records completed by "Heritage" and Steven Wilson's brand new solo album "Grace for drowning" Read more on Steve Wilson's latest venture at gracefordrowning.com

At the time of the initial report, Mike Portnoy was also involved, but he's nowhere to be found in this message. Some research shows that it looks like this album will not feature drums. Here is a quote Akerfeldt gave to Classic Rock Magazine last year:

"To be honest, there's just no room for drums on what we've done so far. I called Mike up, and he was cool about it. He's got so much going on anyway, and I'm sure we will work together in the future."

Needless to say, I am really excited to hear what this collaboration has to offer.
