MEGADETH To Decide On A Permanent Drummer "Soon"

Hmm… is Soilwork's drummer going to join Megadeth?

Hmm... is Soilwork's drummer going to join Megadeth?

Megadeth's drummer situation has been an interesting one to follow, if not incredibly hectic. Initially studio drummer for the group Chris Adler (Lamb Of God) was playing with the band live, and when he had obligations to fill, Tony Laureano (ex-Nile, ex-Malevolent Creation, etc.) stepped in.

Now, in an unlikely turn of events, Soilwork drummer Dirk Veubeuren is sitting behind the kit for Megadeth live. Fortunately we won't have to follow this situation for much longer, as Dave Mustaine has told Kerrang! that the position will be permanently filled soon.

"We'll see what happens for the future as we grow closer as a band," he said. "We're still trying to figure out what we're gonna do with our drum position. It's great having Dirk here. He's been really wonderful to play with also. So there's not a shortage of great players out there, and we're gonna make our decision real soon."

Soilwork seems to be dealing with the absence of Veubeuren alright for now, according to an interview with vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid on Kaaos TV, though Strid does seem bewildered by the whole situation.

"I believe that Dave called Dirk at the end of the U.S. tour that we were doing together with Fear Factory, so that's kind of how it came together. Then we obviously needed to find a session drummer, and Dirk recommended one of his drum students, Bastian (Thusgaard of The Arcane Order), who's playing with us tonight … it's never really easy, especially when you need to go through the set, and it's hard for somebody to come in and play seventeen songs and it needs to lock in. Obviously, it's gonna be hard, but I think he has done a terrific job — really good."

So we'll see what happens… but maybe this is an actual replacement situation and Veubeuren will join Megadeth?
