In early July this year, we posted about Mastodon guitarist and vocalist Bill Kelliher saying he could be starting a side project with Opeth's Mikael Åkerfeldt and In Flames' Björn Gelotte. Everyone got pretty damn excited and we anxiously awaited any news regarding the project. Now we have an update and it isn't good.
Recently, Åkerfeldt spoke to Swedish website Rocksverige.de, who asked him what the deal was with the project. Åkerfeldt gave a very brief response that Blabbermouth so kindly translated… but we wish they hadn't. Ready?
"I don't know of this. [Kelliher] is really cool, no doubt about it, and Björn is too, but we've never talked about this."
I guess this isn't Åkerfeldt telling the interviewer that the group definitely isn't going to exist at some point, but this is a major snag if it's going to. At least now Åkerfeldt knows Kelliher is interested in a project and has time to consider it. Maybe we should reach out to Gelotte and let him know too before he gets the same question sprung on him?
