It's a good thing Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich is a fan of the Pantera reunion (his words), because they're about to spend roughly a year on the road together starting in August. In an interview with Revolver, Ulrich said he's always down to see artists celebrate the music they helped create, and uses former Deep Purple vocalist Glenn Hughes as an example
"I think that the idea that they're out celebrating the music and the magic of Pantera is … I know there's been a lot of talk in the community about whether people support that or not. But I'm the type of person, if Glenn Hughes wants to go out and play a Deep Purple set, I'd support that.
"I'm always in favor of people following their musical and creative ambitions; so this Pantera reunion, I think, is good. And obviously having Charlie [Benante of Anthrax fame] up there is great. I saw a video from one of the Mexico shows that felt like they were in the pocket. It'll be fun to have them out."
Opinions on the Pantera shows and reunion (or celebration) have varied, from folks like Morgan Lander acknowledging it's not the Pantera of yesteryear, to producer Sterling Winfield wondering why people are complaining at all. Then there's the Pantera side of things, with Benante voicing his concerns over people dicks about the whole thing.
