Beating addiction is no easy feat. Some people can keep it at bay mentally, others need far more help, and some ultimately succumb to their addictions. Fortunately Lamb Of God's Randall Blythe has been keeping his drinking addiction at bay for about seven years now, and he tells Loudwire just how great it's been.

Blythe says one of the reasons why being sober has been so great for his is the acceleration of his productivity, and the fact that it's not all mentally muddy.

I'm lucky enough I quit drinking. I always tend to bring up drinking whenever I talk about my life, it's such a huge and important part of it. When I quit drinking almost seven years ago, it was like – I was still creative while I was drinking, but it was like there was a damp filter on it. And when I got sober that was ripped away.

So my mind is on overdrive all the time. I'm writing, I'm shooting photos, I'm making music. I'm just doing all sorts of stuff. Becoming really engaged with life. Doing a lot of surfing, that provides a lot of balance for me.

That's the physical sort of balance in life. So, for me, as long as I'm just moving forward and creating things that I think have artistic merit. I'm generally a pretty happy guy. Not every day is sunshine and unicorn farts, but that's not the way it is for anyone.

We wish Blythe all the power in the world in his future endeavors, which may or may not include a Lamb Of God album while the band is on hiatus.
