KORN's Jonathan Davis "Shocked" By President Obama's Shout Out

"I was asleep and then around six or seven in the morning, my phone starts going off"

"I was asleep and then around six or seven in the morning, my phone starts going off"

Last week, during a Medal of Honor ceremony, President Obama name-dropped Korn and we were all confused.

The name drop came because the Medal of Honor recipient, Florent Groberg, was once visited in a hospital while recovering from war injuries by Korn frontman Jonathan Davis. Groberg, high on meds, thought he was hallucinating. While presenting the award, President Obama said "Flo, I want to assure you, you are not hallucinating. You are actually in the White House. Those cameras are on, I am not the lead singer from Korn."

It was a sweet moment. But how did Jonathan Davis feel about the shout out? Davis, who previously had some unkind things to say about the president, said he was shocked. When reached by Rolling StoneDavis said:

"I was asleep and then around six or seven in the morning, my phone starts going off," Davis recalls. "I look over and someone had just texted me 'The president just said your name during this Medal of Honor ceremony.' I'm just like 'whatever' and went back to sleep, but [my phone] kept going."

"I couldn't believe it. It's really cool. The President of the United States gave me props for being there for a Medal of Honor recipient. Groberg went through hell."

Doing their journalistic duty, RS pressed Davis on his previous comments about the president, including calling him an Illuminati puppet, but Davis wisely took the high road:

"We all have our views on the president. I'm not going to take [this moment] and make it about that. This is about Captain Groberg."

I admire that he is able to put politics aside for this moment.

Korn are currently working on a new studio album.
