Korn frontman Jonathan Davis recently claimed that Korn was never a metal band, and now drummer Ray Luzier is taking things one step further by saying that he's got no idea what the hell nü metal even is.
In an interview with Linearock, Luzier says Korn is just Korn to him, and his response to if Korn is a nü metal band or not is "[to] me, I don’t know what that is."
“To me, I don’t know what that is. Anyone could make a style up. I don’t know… all of these emo [bands], I don’t get it. To me, Korn is Korn. It’s its own thing. It’s hard rock, it’s metal, it’s hip-hop, it’s funk…all of this stuff wrapped into one. It’s not just aggressive metal music. I can’t call it metal, but hard rock doesn’t fit either. It’s Korn. It’s the style. [Laughs]”
To be fair, Luzier joined Korn in 2009, and before that he was working with artists like Billy Sheehan and David Lee Roth. So not exactly in an area where nü metal would've shown up.
