Nile guitarist and vocalist Karl Sanders is using his quarantine time to work on both new Nile music and a new solo album. Sanders told Saturday Night Lockdown his original intent was to write new Nile music, but has also been focusing on his solo project. Sanders has not released a solo album since 2009's Saurian Exorcisms.
"I started off going, 'Okay, this will be a great time to write some Nile songs.' So I did. I've been practicing like a maniac. But then I got going on my solo project, which took a little bit to get in the groove, 'cause it's a totally different mindset for that music than what I normally do with Nile, death metal — it's a whole different way of thinking."
Nile returned after four years in 2019 with their new album Vile Nilotic Rites. The album was the first to feature new guitarist Brian Kingsland, who replaced Dallas Toler-Wade in 2017.
