Amon Amarth has a ton of songs to choose from, but there's only one (probably more than only one) that vocalist Johan Hegg calls his favorite deep cut. In an interview with Metal Injection, Hegg said "Legend Of A Banished Man" from the 1999 album The Avenger is the deep cut that deserves more love. Hegg said the original suffers from bad production and a less-than-stellar performance, and wishes the band would play it more live.
"One song I listened to lately – which I mean obviously suffers from bad production and it's a bit untidy when we recorded it – but one song that comes to mind is 'Legend Of A Banished Man.' It's the last song on The Avenger album and that song has such potential. Every time we play it live, it feels so great. It has that really heavy chug. I fuckin' love that song. For me, it's one of the highlights that we almost never play."
According to Setlist.fm, Amon Amarth has only played the song 17 times live ever. So not exactly a go-to song, though 13 of the 17 performances took place in 2019. So who knows – maybe "Legend Of A Banished Man" is making a comeback?
