IRON MAIDEN Bassist Doesn't Lose Sleep Over Not Being In The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

"No, it doesn't irritate me or make me laugh. I don't really think about it."

Nominees for the 2019 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame were recently announced and metal musicians have come out to decry the hall as pretty much nonsense. Which it is – it's just a tourist destination and a television event to charge companies high prices for commercials. Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson called the hall a "complete load of bollocks" and Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor says he "couldn't give less of a shit" about it.

Now in an interview with Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon, Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris joins in on the conversation, saying he doesn't really care either way about the hall. So a little more in line with Reznor's sentiments.

"No, it doesn't irritate me or make me laugh. I don't really think about it, to be honest. It's not something I really — and I don't wanna sound blasé about it — it's just I don't really think about it.

"I think awards are things that are nice to have when you get them, but it's not something you're really striving for — it's not what it's about it. It's never been about that. It's aways been about just trying to make good music and go out and play good live shows, and that's it, really. Hopefully people will appreciate it. It's probably nice when people give you awards — don't get me wrong; I think it's great — but it's not something that you would lose sleep over if you didn't get any."

Harris adds that "it's not that they're not meaningful when you do get 'em — it's nice" and that he doesn't speak for the rest of Iron Maiden. Though I'm willing to be that Dickinson would be on board with Harris' sentiment.
