DEICIDE Frontman Says Fans Need To Chill Out With Being Violent

"I'd rather see a kid go home smiling about the show rather than with stitches."

Glen Benton of Deicide is pretty well known as that dude who totally wants to kill Jesus and looks generally terrifying. So it's weird to hear him talk about having kids and not wanting to see violence at Deicide shows. Obviously it's all a stage persona for Benton and he's probably a pretty normal guy outside the band, but it doesn't make it any less weird.

Benton told OC Weekly he'd rather see smiles at a Deicide show than people getting dragged out unconcious. Ready to have your world shattered?

"Well we've seen some crazy shit over the years; death metal pits can get crazy. We've seen fights and people over doing with aggression and we've had to barricade in dressing rooms to wait till things mellowed out, years ago. I don't know I've never felt scared, but I did feel a bit disappointed a few times, it is about fun not violence on that level. We just saw a kid recently split his head open, after getting knocked out and we don't like it anytime anyone gets hurt at the shows, it's not a good thing. At the end of the day I'd rather see a kid go home smiling about the show rather than with stitches."

I think sometimes people have trouble differentiating between stage personalities and actual personalities. Obviously Deicide wants people to have fun and get a little rowdy, but don't kill each other over it! Just kill Jesus. That's what Glen Benton really wants.

Seriously though, have a good time at shows! It's just not worth it to get so violent and nuts that you're putting yourself and the group in danger.
